Diablo II Downloader Placeholder?

A few days ago, Rhykker uploaded a video explaining a recent discovery buried in the Battle.net directories. The link is not public within your account page, but the file exists.

Diablo-II-Setup.exe

This file is a Diablo II downloader, but it is named differently than the normal Diablo II downloader. In fact, the file attempts to download the installer, but doesn't find it.

If you wish to test if this claim is true, just type (or click the URL). Try for yourself.

https://www.battle.net/download/getInstallerForGame?0s=win&gameProgram=DIABLO_2&version=Live&id=1687798039.1588632728

You will see in your Downloads Folder a file named: Diablo-II-Setup.exe

Now go to your Battle.net account, and locate the normal Diablo II installer from Battle.net.

Right away, you will notice that the current Diablo II Downloader file is named different than the recently discovered one. The current one is named: Downloader_Diablo2_enUS.exe

Rhykker says that this same behavior of a separate Warcraft III Downloader happened 18 months before Warcraft III: Reforged was announced. That file existed, and you could download it, and it would attempt to download the installer files, but the progress bar would stop the same way you see in the image above: "Starting Diablo II: Lord of Destruction."

This could be construed as possible plans for a Diablo II HD installer to bring Diablo II to the modern Blizzard Launcher [OR] the rumored Diablo II: Resurrected.

Blizzard Entertainment has not made any official announcements, so we'll have to take it as we see it, and extrapolate from there what this means.
