Eurogamer interviewed Greg Street, WoW Lead Systems Designer (also known as Ghostcrawler). One thing he said has the press pretty excited. Not because it is anything official in particular, but because of the ramifications and potential hidden behind it.
"Everyone I know here has an iPhone or an iPad so we're huge fans of the hardware," he said. "If we could make the right game changes to make that work, it's something we'd be interested in. It's not something you're going to see in the next week or two, but it's the kind of thing we're always looking at. That's a really big topic. The one [issue] that comes to mind is that WOW is designed for use of a mouse and a keyboard and we haven't yet seen a console solution that lets us replicate it easily." -- said Greg Street (Ghostcrawler)
Blizzard Entertainment has discussed the possibility of developing for the iPad iOS.
We have heard this words (in orange text) over the past couple of years, but along with those same words we have heard Jay Wilson and the executives a handful of times say that Diablo III is the easiest to port to consoles. Jay Wilson told to CVG on August 2010 the following:
"I'd be lying if I said we never talk about it, but it's not something we're pursuing right now. I do agree that of all our titles, Diablo would be the easiest to bring over to consoles - mainly because of the controls."
More recently, on March 15, 2011, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime told to MCV the following:
"We are looking for a couple of console developers, yes. At this stage though, it’s basically an investigation to see if it makes sense for Diablo to be a console game as well as a PC game. We haven’t made any decisions yet, but a lot us feel that if ever there was a Blizzard franchise that could play well as a console game, then that’s probably it."
With that said, could Blizzard be musing with the idea of Diablo III on Apple iPad's iOS? Blizzard Next-Gen MMO on iPad?
For the skeptical, here are some Diablo III console job openings:
